RETRO TECH: MACINTOSH

Birt 2 des 2019
Everyone knows the 1984 Macintosh computer was a game changer for the tech industry. But why was this particular computer so iconic? I learn how Steve Jobs and his team took on computer giants IBM, changing personal computing forever. Living legend Bill Nye the Science Guy joins me to play Asteroids on an original Macintosh. And fellow ISmem creator and Apple expert iJustine explains why the 1984 Macintosh was able to beat its competitors.

  • This made me feel so old! I was born seven days after this computer came out. And my most earliest vivid memory was the Apple rainbow logo. I remember someone was holding me, while they were sitting at the computer desk on this very computer. And that’s what my Apple journey began

  • lol…Still have mine from 1996

  • My favorite "easter egg" in Back to the Future 2 is when they travel from 1985 to 2015 and the 84 Macintosh is shown for sale in the window of an antique store. Mine still sits on a shelf at home.

  • Great content! Kudos!

  • Adorbs made this episode worth it.

  • Imagine being a fan of a brand XD

  • In this episode Marques becomes a time traveller

  • Is this sponsored by Apple? I know that this video is about Macintosh, but you don't even slightly mention Microsoft. It sounds like you're saying: hey, they did everything themselves. Still, great video.

  • At some point you’ve gotta do a video on the Atari ST which was a MIDI powerhouse machine for countless seminal musicians

  • The box art and design still looks gorgeous. Love the caligraphic notes. Also probably wise to just skip over the Lisa entirely, as that project was more of an obsession than a vision.

  • Even though I hate apple with a burning passion I'll always admire their innovation and original work.

  • Any comments regarding apple using Uighur forced labour ?

  • Now, Marques that was a great video. It brought back so many memories. I started out with one of those gray Radio Shack computers you showed as well as an Apple ][ and a Commodore 64. Soon after that I upgraded to a Radio Shack TRS - 80. Eventually I bought an Apple IIc and at a national conference on computers in education I was loaned one of the Compaq computers that you showed. It was very heavy and difficult to use. Later on I bought a Macintosh SE as an upgrade to my Apple IIc. When Radio Shack introduced their IBM clones I won three of them in a grant. I used them for work and eventually upgraded one of them to a Dell Windows computer. After having several Dells and some other brand Windows machines I switched back to an iMac when they came out with the aluminum case in 2007. That one was upgraded in late 2015 to a 27 inch 5K Retina display. That’s my current Mac. I can’t wait for the new larger screen iMac to come. It sounds like they will be fantastic.

  • really good video marques thanks for the show dope

  • seeing the current prices of these old computers, I'm starting to wonder if I should keep my iMac from 2011 instead of selling it for 300€ now :'D

  • Bill nye! Wtf?! Omg I’m freaking out

  • Thank you. It reminded me of the first time I touched a Macintosh, this model, and what a revelatory, indeed almost spiritual experience it was.

  • Imagine 50 or a hundred years from now, people will look back to our phones and technologies we have right now

  • That was the computer we used in our school

  • 1984 was a great year. Me and Macintosh were born

  • Classic or retro cars nowadays are really cool and still in demand. But owning these retro computers are just for fun

  • in 7:51was that a letnigMcqueen comuter ?!
