Perseverance Rover’s Descent and Touchdown on Mars (Official NASA Video)

Birt 22 feb 2021
NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance mission captured thrilling footage of its rover landing in Mars' Jezero Crater on Feb. 18, 2021. The real footage in this video was captured by several cameras that are part of the rover's entry, descent, and landing suite. The views include a camera looking down from the spacecraft's descent stage (a kind of rocket-powered jet pack that helps fly the rover to its landing site), a camera on the rover looking up at the descent stage, a camera on the top of the aeroshell (a capsule protecting the rover) looking up at that parachute, and a camera on the bottom of the rover looking down at the Martian surface.

The audio embedded in the video comes from the mission control call-outs during entry, descent, and landing.

  • What a joke nasa is

  • I don't believe it ...we are not even able to land on the moon again like they supposedly did lol ...they're talking about Mars 😂😂😂

  • Tf are people disliking this

  • This remembered me of The Expanse series.

  • When my constipation clears 3:17

  • aww look at them all being happy when rover landed great job guys

  • very nice

  • This has to be one of the greatest videos in human history. I cant count how many times ive watched this.

  • I like Nasa is using metric system.

  • Serious question. From 2:55 to 3:05 there doesn't seem to be any propellant coming from the nozzles of the "jetpack" in the top left corner. Why is that? I thought those were powered by some type of hydrocarbon not air.

    • @BigTulsa ah cool this is what I was looking for thanks!!

    • @Mudkip909 It actually is, if you watch the press conference with JPL that accompanies this video they explain why it doesn't appear as fire (the fuel doesn't really allow for this) but they do point out the nozzles of the descent engines are pink hot.

    • I guess it isn’t that hot

  • Congratulations

  • THE greatest L1£R s!! 😂😂 carry on ..

  • MY FAVORITE MARTIAN would be proud of you NASA.....

  • Sorry, a craft using a parachute in an atmosphere that is less than 1% the density of Earth’s would not work at all. Also, the little helicopter stunt they just claimed to do would not work either. But, what do you expect from an agency that has the devil’s serpent tongue in its logo.

    • @TimePro Don’t even try to argue with these people. They deny science that they personally don’t believe nor understand, and try to link it back to religion.

    • The parachute didn't drain a lot of speed. Of course it did not do much. But it still did its job on mars. 1% Doesn't change a thing. Show me the science and I will believe you. If its correct. The helicopter also works.

  • My planet❤️

  • In the future dad: comon kids we going to mars for a vacation kids: omg dad it takes like 5 hours to get there your ruining my life

  • WOW! amazing to see!

  • imagine people in the future be like "can't wait for the next holday i'll visit earth for a week" :

  • Porque no mandan un robot a marte para medir la temperatura

  • to be honest, "touch Down Confirmed, We're Safe On Mars" sounds way better

  • 0:12 Parachute deploy 0:30 heat shield sep 2:14 back shell and divert maneuver 2:48 sky Crane maneuver 3:06 comfirmation

  • Congrats Nasa im sooo proud

  • Now we finally got video of ingenuity flying

  • amazing work!

  • Absolutely pointless. No oxygen or least not enough to breath and below -60 freezing cold. Spend money on earth

  • who is here after ingenuity flight test

  • What does NASA mean?...in Hebrew

    • @I'm 4real oh I was mistaken, it does, according to google translate. I typed Nasa, and it said “did you mean נסה” so I pressed it and it said Try

    • @Mudkip909, I didn't say in Yiddish, I mean true Hebrew...?

    • It doesn’t actually have a Hebrew meaning

  • Don't forget that this is the first HD video on Mars.

  • While all t his is incredible....The lander is on the verge of shutdown due to "dust" on it's power generating solar panels........Scientist are the smartest people in the world....but cannot see the forest for the trees....!

    • i'm assuming you're taking about insight, which completed its primary mission already

    • It's not powered by solar panels lol, tf

  • Wow Amazing

  • Not enough atmosphere for a drone but parachutes work well. lol

  • Awesome stuff, yet if we really want to learn the history of mars. Do what we do and dig in, not just core samples.

  • NASA is just on a whole new level!!!

  • How tf does it’s every day bro have more views then this

    • Jake Paul hacking Maybe???? Sus😳😳😳😳😳 xd

  • Лайкните чтобы думали что я что-то умное написал

  • Don't forget the 16 mins delay

  • That quality tho

  • Legit started crying, and I did nothing on this project. Congratulations to everyone who worked on it, ready to find life on mars!

  • wich time a astrnout gona put his first food print on mars nasa

    • @BadWitch00 cool i ddint know that

    • Yeah, gotta leave some potato prints out there soon.

  • I find myself watching this video almost everyday.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

  • 2 Skycrane deployments 2 Skycrane success's.

  • Yay

  • Dear God we did it we've come a long way I'm so excited to eventually live on Mars 👍🏻

  • Why are the red lines on the parachute word coded

    • @Ruben Davies ah, ok thanks

    • @Jake McKee it spells out "Dare Mighty Things"

    • They spell out a message that’s one of JPL’s catch phrases. I forgot what it was though, so you’ll have to search it up

  • 1903: first sustained and controlled flight in kittyhawk 2021: freaking autonomous helicopter on mars

    • 2069: autonomous landing on the sun

  • what a joke...LOL

  • ❤️

  • is the reaction and footage syncronized? cause signal takes several minutes from mars to earth

    • This video is synced with the mission control readouts that happened days before these videos were downlinked.

    • Yeah

  • Righteous! This vid makes one so proud to be an American; unlike the bogus President representing our country currently.

  • I get goosebumps every time I watch this....even now

  • RT see thus.

  • congratulations

  • They take people for fools! This is not Mars, but a studio !

    • @threegon not just a planet but a while universe 🤯

    • Nasa is so sneaky, they built an entire planet in secret 🤯

    • I’ll send you a postcard when I get there.

    • Yes, just like the 70's movie, "Capricorn One"! You are so on top of things! Amazing!

  • First Curiosity and then Perseverance. Just amazing!

    • Curiosity and Perseverance will continue legacy of Spirit and Opportunity. They will not be forgotten.

    • @Yu Tub Sorry, I got used to idiots in the comment section.

    • @Veritates Educational never said anything about it being the first rover...

    • Curiosity wasn’t first, but it was the first rover landed via sky crane.

  • that's so amazing

  • Muito emocionante

  • They should donate their money to poor people instead!!😇

    • It’s nasa not napsa

    • If they did that then everyone who works there would become one of those "poor people" when they lose their jobs.

  • Congratulations

  • this is the layout ..Ha ha ha ha

  • At 0:24, pause. Is that the Sun in the bottom right corner of screen? Why does the Sun look so big when Mars is so much further away from the Sun than Earth?

    • if the camera was supposed to be pointed at the sun, it would have appeared smaller, but the glare from the sun caused it to appear larger

    • That's the glare that makes it seem big

    • @Michael David ok flerfer

    • @Mark Brummett Half again further away, I know, but in every real photo from Mars the Sun is much smaller in the sky. Photos from other rovers. I've also seen pictures and video of a blue sky over Mars from Perseverance, as well as a large Sun. Have you seen similar footage from other Mars rovers? Please point a couple out to me. I honestly want to believe that NASA has succeeded with the Perseverance mission. I do not want to believe that it's being faked. Remote places on Earth like the Atacama Desert and Devon Island, where NASA has done rover research, make it possible.

    • "So much further away"? It's about 1.5 au (astronomical unit is the measurement used standard in this solar system; it represents the average distance from the Sun the earth is, which is around 93,000,000 miles. In other words it's about 1.5 times further than earth (abt 142 million miles). Which, using math, would make the sun appear about 2/3 as big.

  • Wow that was amazing...From the radio to this...Very exciting

  • Dozens of times I watch this video and I never hope for it

  • Now lets make theories about the rover.

  • Мурашки по коже! Молодцы!

  • อืม

  • No word on Doge?

  • History making!!!

  • 3:19 She single? I want greencard.

  • Playing music n mars would sound like they're always out of tune lol

  • Que pire loco

  • The standing heron importantly satisfy because nation tentatively saw above a sparkling inventory. fresh, dapper sun

  • Вот это вот крупное такое нахлебалово ! Вы хоть поняли что это было ?

  • I listened to the entire entry and landing while on a long roadtrip. I was cheering in my car. What an incredible thing that we could ALL be a part of this accomplishment. Well done NASA!!!!

  • How did you at NASA get a drone to fly on MARS that has no atmosphere, and no oxygen?

    • It has an atmosphere. Drones do not need oxygen, jet engines do.

    • @Patrick mars has a very thin atmosphere, it is believed to have once been the same as earth’s. What mars lacks though, is a magnetic field protecting it from radiation. Over millions of years mars’ atmosphere was picked away by solar winds. but yea mars has an atmosphere

    • Mars has an atmosphere, it is full of Carbon Dioxide

    • @Patrick None of your previous comments explain why you think Mars has no atmosphere. Maybe you don't understand the question but I tried to ask it in as simple terms as I could.

    • @E. Rose you dont understand what read my previous comments means? Wow. You're such an automaton.

  • Yeah I live dpace

  • STOP HIDING THE DATA FROM MARS......IT BELONGS TO HUMANS....NOT NASA.....

  • HEY PEOPLE NASA IS OVER WITH....THEY ARE SOOO IN DEEP WITH THE MILITARY...THEY ARE USELESS....

  • YOUR LIES HAVE BEEN EXPOSED...

  • WHERE THE F*** IS THE DATA....?????

  • Imagine people believe this garbage

    • how many chromosomes do you have?

    • The like to dislike ratio sure says something

    • Your conspiracy theories don't make you special

    • my very being on this earth depends on the belief that this is sarcasm

  • many congratulations to NASA and scientists

  • The rover should have brought a seed and planted it..

    • Mars’ surface temp is too cold, there is iron oxide and phosphates in the soil, making it toxic for plants. Mars also does not have an atmosphere thick enough to house a plant.

    • It'd die, since mars's surface temperature is way too cold for earth life

  • Been reading some of the comments and everybody's getting all emotional and misty eyed over this Mars landing. Stop yourselves. Yeah, it's all mind- blowing technology and all but, what are we doing or accomplishing. We can't survive on Mars. I knew that when I was in 2nd grade. At least not live a normal life as we now know it. Seems like alot of wasted time and money. Landed on the moon more than 50 yrs. ago and all we got out of it was a bunch of rocks. The ISS has benefited us how. Let's concentrate on the planet that has 7 billion humans living on it. Lets spend some more time and money working on making this a better and safer planet. I just don't get it. What's the big picture,"The Plan."100 yrs from now we'll be doing the same thing. Counting down another rover landing on another planet..... for what? "The space program is morally indefensible, not in itself, but because it has been given priority over the feeding and clothing and housing of the poor majority of the human race"....... Arnold Toynbee 1971

  • Did we not go to the moon few years ago? And already we are at Mars......

    • we went to the moon in the 60s and 70s. We are going back in 2024. :)

  • NASA and its people are awesome!

  • The uneven office nearly sack because layer july form before a madly note. painstaking, nutritious circle

  • Why there was a touch down video from 3 cameras but not a single video from surface of Mars?

    • Why were there no aliens, augh so disappointing

    • can't tell if this is sarcasm

  • بهترین در یوتیوب

  • I could already hear the -15p IQ people saying they asked this landing

  • Hang in there, Mark Watney, we're coming for you!! :)

  • 6.7 dislikes are flat earthers

  • Pizza

  • see lander eject rover and lander thurrst but not 🚀flow the fire on thurrster😂😂😂😂👍🏻good joke pf the 2021

    • huh?

    • its because it uses hydrazine, hydrazine doesn't really have a colour

  • 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣d

  • I was wanting to hear them say "We are 30 Seconds to Mars" so bad...

  • Just think, back in time they believed that there was canals on Mars, oh humanity so easy to be fooled.

  • this is so surreal I just cant believe another rover landed

  • This is amazing!
